Adopted in 1860, the flag of Ecuador is very similar to the flags of Colombia and Venezuela. The highest part of the flag is yellow, symbolizing the riches of the land. The ground part is made up of 2 horizontal stripes of equal size. Blue is on most sensible, representing the ocean and sky, with red underneath symbolizing blood shed all the way through the struggle for independence. At the yellow and blue stripes within the heart of the flag is the Ecuadorian Coat of Arms.
